There has been a lot of recent talk about digital phones. On the one hand, you hear stories about people who have literally saved a bundle of money by simply switching over to VoIP. On the other hand, some people don't really think there is much of a difference between ordinary phones and digital ones. This is because digital telephony isn't really for everyone.

Are most of your calls restricted to local calls? In that case, switching over to a VoIP isn't really going to make much of a difference for you. Of course digital phones are not without their glitches. However, as the technology becomes more popular, these glitches are being taken care of quickly. For example, if there is a problem with your connection, it will be reflected in the quality of your call- you might experience a digital delay or packets of the conversation may be missing. Security issues, such as being able to call 911 are also a problem though a number of service providers have already addressed that. Many also offer battery packs along with their phones so that they are still operable if the electricity is off.
In comparison, digital phones have a lot more advantages than disadvantages. Not only are they incredibly cheaper, they also avoid a lot of the extra taxes and fees that come with ordinary phones. It's very clear the VoIP is going to be the way to talk in the future and that ordinary phones are on the way out!
